Interdisciplinary Education
The Institute encourages interdisciplinary experiments in education; at present these include:
BIG IDEAS: Immigrants, Refugees and Peoples on the Move
Each year the Institute offers undergraduates a discussion seminar on a big topic that they might not encounter in a traditional program, bringing together a broad range of disciplinary perspectives. Last year's class, for instance, focused on current immigration debates in the US in the context of larger population flows worldwide. In the spring quarter, this year's Big Ideas students will take up the question of Value, Values and Evaluation. (Contact

Humanities Scholars
In the winter quarter, Institute Associate Director Rick Livingston will teach a course on The City and Culture of Paris for the Humanities Scholars program, and accompany a group of Scholars as they explore the city of Paris during spring break.
