Interdisciplinary Education 2002-03

The Institute encourages interdisciplinary experiments in education; at present these include:

Big Ideas
These one-credit undergraduate seminars present faculty and off-campus experts talking with students over dinner about fundamental human issues. Seminars in 2002-03 will focus on Evil, War and Peace, and on Passion, and in the future will address such suggested subjects as Work, Fashion, Shopping, Taste, Race, Rights, Security, Literacy, Belief, and Mars.

Interdisciplinary Discussion Series
On behalf of the Interdisciplinary Studies Committee of the College of Humanities, the Institute hosts forums on a variety of emergent and established interdisciplinary initiatives in the College, discussions meant to facilitate conversations about forms of research and teaching that cross boundaries of departments and colleges. Past forums have featured discussions about the development of programs in world literature, sexuality studies, and ethnic studies. (Contact David Horn (horn.5@osu.edu).

Humanities Scholars Program
The Institute provides course support for the College of Humanities undergraduate resident Scholars Program. This year's course will focus on New York and the immigrant experience.
